Womyn Born Womyn

The Michigan Women’s Music Festival has a policy that only “womyn born womyn” are womyn-ey enough to participate. Many years ago, they used to kick out any trans people discovered in the fest.

These days, many of the volunteers and the festival-goers just don’t hate trannies like they used to and they don’t support or enforce the womyn-born-womyn rule.

It remains official policy, however meaningless it has become, as a kind of symbolic “fuck you” from the transphobic woman who owns the festival to trans people everywhere.

Rather interesting. Has few times re-read for this purpose to remember. Thanks for interesting article. Waiting for trackback

I don’t know if penis size is actually the issue. Plenty of festies at Michigan love penises, big ones too, as long as they are silicon based and not carbon. I went last year an within half an hour of entering I got to watch a performer sing a song about how much she loves her cock. (And right before that a performer was introduced with male pronouns, and a few hours later someone who thought I was a tran guy hit on me — talk about cognitive dissonance)

Also, the current word from the owner is that it’s not “policy” but “expectation.” Which means trans women won’t get turned away or kicked out, but aren’t “welcome.” It’s still messed up, but it provides an opportunity for desegregation and dialog that didn’t exist before.

Tobi, good point, I was trying to mock the acceptance of trans* guy while excluding trans* women. Like your allowed to have a bio cock, just as long as it’s nice a small.
